Welcome to the February 2020 Round Up of the Fulbright REVIEW Blog

by | Feb 17, 2020 | Announcements, Dean's Corner

We are so excited to share all the great things happening here at the U of A’s J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences this February!

Our Fulbright Family has been keeping busy with plenty of amazing events, exciting initiatives and more – and you can check it all out here in the Fulbright REVIEW.

February is also Black History Month, and we are proud to feature a roundup of month-long events as well as a cool new partnership focused on diversity, inclusion and integrating University of Arkansas Museum collections into history curriculum.

This month, the Schmieding Foundation in Springdale gave us a $125,000 gift to create internships for the School of Social Work, providing students with hands-on, real-world experiences!

Our students also created this fascinating timeline of the land that is now home to Crystal Bridges’ satellite contemporary art space – the Momentary – opening to the public Feb. 22.

Speaking of cool events, the free Nadi Cinema film series kicked off this semester and features stories from across North Africa and the Middle East all spring! Tickets are also available for theatre’s contemporary re-imagining of the biblical story of RuthIn the Book Of – on stage now through Feb. 23.

Be sure to help congratulate this faculty duo who were awarded $160,000 from the National Endowment for the Humanities to co-direct a summer institute for K-12 educators, and this art professor who joined the prestigious American Academy of Arts and Sciences’ Commission on the Arts!

Afterward, check out the newly formed Arkansas Humanities Center and meet its leadership. You can also learn more about a role-playing experience these professors created so their students could learn what applying for citizenship might be like.

Then, meet this awesome mathematical sciences professor, who has a passion for statistics and helping her students succeed, as well as these three graduate students who recently published in prestigious journals.

And don’t forget to watch these great videos on undergraduate students’ service-learning projects!

If these stories have inspired you to learn more, or to make a gift, please contact Betsy Bushmiaer on our development team at 479-575-3712 or fulbright@uark.edu.

As always, we’ll keep providing you with more new stories at fulbrightreview.uark.edu, and showcase the most interesting features in our monthly email round ups so you never miss the inside scoop.

We hope you’ll stay tuned and continue to enjoy the blog. And, if you have a great story idea or know someone you’d like us to feature, please email us at fulbcomm@uark.edu.

Sincerely,
