Welcome to the February 2022 Round Up of the Fulbright REVIEW Blog
February is such a fantastic time to spread good cheer and love, and to share some of the tremendous successes and achievements of our Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences family!
In this February 2022 Fulbright REVIEW we are also excited to celebrate and highlight Black History Month, and to share stories of student success, wonderful research breakthroughs, new creative endeavors, and so much more.
First, tune in to live episodes of the podcast Undisciplined which celebrate African American successes and host honest discussions about Black life in Arkansas and beyond – and don’t forget to check out some of the U of A’s Black History Month events!
Then, you can watch the premiere of the documentary film, If This Walk Could Talk, which chronicles 150 years of U of A history, reserve your free tickets to theatre’s Brontë-inspired dark comedy, The Moors and listen to the latest Short Talks From the Hill about an NSF grant to study the effects of climate change on Arctic watersheds.
You can also meet an honors chemistry and biology major who wants to be an orthopedic surgeon, a communications professor who won a mid-career mentorship award, and an art faculty member whose new solo exhibition, “Yesterday Once More,” explores the ideas of home and resilience in the Arkansas and Mississippi deltas.
Next, learn how artists of all musical genres can make submissions to our student-run record label, Hill Records, and how data mining helped this geoscientist study nearly 245,000 COVID-related geotagged tweets to identify shifts in mental health during the pandemic!
Afterward, see how our new instructor coach program has provided one-on-one mentoring for more than 450 students, learn about a sociology and criminology team’s collaboration with Little Rock to reduce violence in a key community school zone, and find out how large, intense and controlled burns can help restore declining grassland bird populations.
Then, help congratulate our undergraduates who recently had standout performances at the American Mock Trial Association’s regional tournament, and a mathematical science professor whose exploration of symmetry won him $25,000 and a national prize for innovation and inspiration in math teaching!
Finally, if you’d like to learn more about all the extraordinary people, initiatives, projects and activities that make up Fulbright College, please visit our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages. Our handle is @uarkfulbright on all three.
And, as always, we’ll keep providing you with more new stories at fulbrightreview.uark.edu. We hope you’ll stay tuned.
In the meantime, please keep in touch, take care and be well!
Sincerely,
