Happy new year and semester! I hope you and yours enjoyed a restful and joyful holiday season.

As we journey into 2023 together, it’s looking like an amazing year ahead at the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences, fresh and full of potential.

We hope you’ll be with us for it all, and of course we’ll cover every step along the way right here in the Fulbright REVIEW.

In this January 2023 edition, we’re showcasing some of our many terrific students, faculty, staff, alumni, and community members who are making a huge positive impact – both here and far beyond.

So, cheers to 2023! Cheers to you, cheers to a fantastic future ahead, and read on!

To kick things off, meet a stellar alumna whose career took her to the stars, save the date for our highly anticipated Black Music Symposium, and get the scoop on a new documentary tracing the origins of an Arkansas town to Italy.

Next, meet a young alumnus who won an international scholarship to study global affairs in Beijing, an M.F.A. student whose translation received a major grant, and an amazing Dean’s Office team member who won a national thesis award!

You can also get to know a student who recently presented at a top European studies conference, and a senior who received a prestigious a DEI summit scholarship.

Afterward, check out this faculty member’s interviews on a top podcast, this professor’s Portuguese book on the history of soccer, and this alumna who created a documentary on protecting river resources.

You can also help congratulate this professor who won a GLBTQ dissertation award, these faculty who were accepted into a nation-wide ePortfolio institute, and this duo who won distinguished artistry awards!

Additionally, check out this research exploring automated facial-expression analysis and see what an interdisciplinary research team discovered about using role-playing games in online government classes.

Then, meet Abigail Hogan, Patrick Phelps, Madelaine Richardson and Rogelio Cano, who thanks to four scholarships and the donors who created them, are each one step closer to making their educational and career dreams come true!

Finally, help us commemorate the life of a professor emeritus who served the college for more than 27 years and was a beloved teacher and prolific translator.

And, if you’d like to learn more about the extraordinary people, initiatives, projects and activities that make up Fulbright College, please visit our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages. Our handle is @uarkfulbright on all three.
