Welcome to the October 2021 Round Up of the Fulbright REVIEW Blog
October in Fayetteville means Homecoming at the U of A and for our Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences – and this year’s theme is “Calling All Hogs Home: Celebrating 150 Years on The Hill”!
The festivities culminated this past weekend with our annual parade, the battle against Auburn, and so many more amazing events.
But the real reason Homecoming is such a special time is because it’s all about the people – about YOU – our Fulbright College family, who are at the heart and soul of all we do and strive to accomplish.
And this latest edition of the Fulbright REVIEW showcases some of those many people who make our college and community such a special place!
Read on to meet the U of A’s 2021 Family of the Year, an alumna who is a rising literary star, and an alumnus who was selected for the 2021 40 Under 40 Award by the Arab American Foundation.
Then, meet our inaugural 2021-22 class of student social media ambassadors, and get to know an alumna and scientist who is helping NASA launch its new telescope.
And, speaking of science, check out how one of our researchers discovered that these simple, inexpensive supplies can help remove infectious airborne particles like coronavirus!
You can also listen to this podcast on recruiting and retaining women in STEM fields, meet a professor selected for the 2022 Global Leaders Program, and listen to this year’s Constitution Day talk with a professor who also just received two grants to broaden political research.
Next, check out this grant that will teach K-12 educators about Nelson Hackett, an enslaved man who fled Fayetteville and bondage in 1841, and another for a summer institute on pandemics through history.
Our scientists are also helping fellow researchers effectively communicate their findings, and an archeologist is studying ancient agriculture to gain insights into modern farming – when he’s not teaching, playing the drums, or laughing with his family and dogs!
Finally, help congratulate the English students who won a prestigious literary magazine prize, a professor whose book took top honors in an international competition, and the folks who helped our college snag first place during the Cycle September challenge.
Afterward, if you’d like to learn more about all the extraordinary people, initiatives, projects and activities that make up Fulbright College, please visit our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages. Our handle is @uarkfulbright on all three.
And, as always, we’ll keep providing you with more new stories at fulbrightreview.uark.edu. We hope you’ll stay tuned.
In the meantime, please keep in touch, take care and be well!
Sincerely,
