It’s a beautiful fall here in Fayetteville, and we hope this season finds you and yours well and thriving!

October in our Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences is always packed with wonderful events.

And even though this pandemic year has been unlike any other and the events are now virtual, we can’t wait to share all our happenings and highlights with you here in the Fulbright REVIEW!

First up, some groundbreaking news! Literally. Just last week we broke ground on the School of Art’s new Windgate Studio + Design Center, the hub of a planned south Fayetteville design district. Get the inside scoop.

You’ll also definitely want to meet this year’s Razorback Marching Band drum majors, who are tackling this most unusual season with great tenacity and leadership!

Then, get to know a senior journalism major who is working hard to show her daughter that “it is never too late to start over or try again,” and a mathematical sciences graduate student who recently completed NASA’s SCaN Intern Project.

On the research front, meet one of our physicists who developed a technology that could create clean, limitless energy, and check out several new and fascinating projects aimed to diversify our humanities research and curricula.

And of course, we hope you’ll join us at some of our awesome upcoming virtual events! Here are but a few of so many exciting options.

Save the date of Oct. 22, for both the next virtual lecture in the Pryor Center Presents series as well as a virtual community conversation with KUAF 91.3 and the station’s launch of two new podcast series.

Then, mark your calendars for Oct. 27, when a pair of award-winning historians and authors will discuss a new literary novel that explores themes of social justice in 1950s Arkansas.

On Oct. 28, join an exclusive panel discussion and launch of The Nelson Hackett Project, about an enslaved man whose 1841 flight from Fayetteville to Canada set off events that created lasting change.

We also want to invite you to share your feedback with the Chancellor’s committee on how Sen. J. William Fulbright’s legacy has impacted you.

Specifically, the committee is charged to make recommendations regarding the name of the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences, the presence of the J. William Fulbright statue in the heart of campus, and Charles Brough’s name on Brough Commons. In your opinion, what should be done?

Additionally, if you’d like to learn more about all the fantastic people, initiatives, projects and activities that make up Fulbright College, please visit our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages. Our handle is @uarkfulbright on all three.

And, as always, we’ll keep providing you with more new stories at fulbrightreview.uark.edu. We hope you’ll stay tuned, and if you have a great story idea, please email us at fulbcomm@uark.edu.
