Welcome to the May 2020 Round Up of the Fulbright REVIEW Blog

How amazing! Even though these unprecedented times caused the celebration to go virtual, nearly 4,830 students graduated from the University of Arkansas this spring, and more than a fourth of those new alumni are from our very own J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences!

We are so proud of the resilient Class of 2020, who have survived and thrived – even during this last strange and unique semester that has made this a historic graduation!

To celebrate these amazing members of our Fulbright College Family, we recognized our graduates through a new U of A commencement website, a new Fulbright College commencement website, a #GoRedforGrads2020 social media celebration and the lighting of Razorback Stadium.

You can read about our virtual commencement celebration and lots more right here in the Fulbright REVIEW.

You can also check out this awesome research and community collaboration that secured a $4 million grant to implement health improvements in rural Arkansas communities.

Then, drop by the virtual exhibition, Frankly, which is a collaborative, real-time, immersive 3D experience featuring our graphic design seniors’ work!

Learn about this year’s new One Book, One Community read, and meet the alumnus who shifted his courier business when COVID-19 hit to deliver personal protection equipment and food to nonprofits serving those in need.

Afterward, meet this Dean’s Office staff member who created the college’s Diversity and Inclusion imagery, as well as these 19 outstanding, hard-working faculty members selected as the 2020 class of Connor Faculty Fellows!

The college is also offering a unique new hybrid course that lets students tour Rome virtually while learning from the U of A’s Rome Center faculty and another public course that brings together medical professionals, faculty experts and Arkansas’ governor to provide context on the global COVID-19 crisis.

Next, meet the alumnus who created two new $50,000 endowments in his former professor’s memory, and the head of the newly formed Crime and Security Data Analytics Lab.

We’ve also got great research news! One team is creating advanced imaging technology that could help improve breast cancer treatment and advance the nation’s 5G network, while another is working on research that could lead to testing of therapeutic drugs for treating mitochondrial diseases.

If you’d like to learn more about these initiatives and other Fulbright College activities please visit our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages. Our handle is @uarkfulbright on all three.
