Welcome to the June 2021 Round Up of the Fulbright REVIEW Blog

The sun’s out and summer is finally here! But while the academic year may have come to a close, there are still so many wonderful things happening at the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences that we can’t wait to share with you.

June is also special because it’s when we celebrate Pride Month, which highlights LGBTQIA+ voices, experiences and issues, and also when the annual Northwest Arkansas Juneteenth Celebrations take place to commemorate the anniversary of the emancipation of African Americans.

And since our faculty are the lifeblood of the college, this June 2021 edition of the Fulbright REVIEW in particular highlights some of the truly outstanding instructors, teachers and researchers who continue to give our students their all.

To kick things off, help congratulate the fantastic 2021 recipients of our King, Nolan and OMNI endowed faculty awards, and the latest 18 accomplished and hard-working faculty members selected as the 2021 class of Connor Faculty Fellows!

And speaking of phenomenal career achievements, this physicist just received a prestigious grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to advance his research into novel topological quantum materials, and our 2021 Grammy Music Educator of the Year is sharing a behind the scenes look at his extraordinary class!

Afterward, check out the new Razorback Band Digital Archive – a collection of almost 500 video files consisting of over 700 performances since 1963 – and learn more about this student’s new book that centers on the Trail of Tears and was included on NPR’s list of best books for 2020.

On the research front, these geneticists are working to understand efforts to restore white-tailed deer in eastern North America, this geoscientist’s location data research uncovered potentially unequal exposure to the coronavirus, and this team’s work could ultimately help us prevent land submerging!

Also, be sure to meet one of our newest alumni, who is passionate about human-centered and user experience design, and check out this new graduate assistantship that will help more students from underrepresented backgrounds pursue graduate degrees in Cell and Molecular Biology.

Finally, help us commemorate the life of a devoted friend and supporter, who leaves behind a tremendous legacy, including the creation of our Jim and Joyce Faulkner Performing Arts Center, and so much more.

Afterward, if you’d like to learn more about all the extraordinary people, initiatives, projects and activities that make up Fulbright College, please visit our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages. Our handle is @uarkfulbright on all three.

And, as always, we’ll keep providing you with more new stories at fulbrightreview.uark.edu. We hope you’ll stay tuned.

In the meantime, please keep in touch, take care and be well!

Sincerely,

Todd Shields
