Welcome to the July 2019 Round Up of the Fulbright REVIEW Blog
We may be in the midst of the “hog” days of summer here at the U of A’s J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences, but there are still plenty of exciting happenings we can’t wait to share!
This edition of the Fulbright REVIEW takes a look at several summer-time initiatives that are providing students with new experiences, and opportunities to research and study both here and abroad.
First, check out the new Arkansas Soul program, which brought 12 minority high school journalists to campus to learn content creation skills with our faculty before exploring multiple Arkansas cities and creating a new tourism microsite!
Then, see how the journey of discovering, identifying and understanding the fossils of Arkansas’ official state dinosaur continues today through the work of researchers and the University Museum.
You can also help congratulate one of our amazing physicists, who was just named a recipient of the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers – the highest such honor bestowed by the federal government!
Afterward, meet a modern European historian, who helps our students connect to opportunities across the world, and one of the newest members of the Dean’s Office, who loves problem-solving and being an uncle to nine!
Also be sure to meet an art education major who recently completed a large mural in Bella Vista with her Lhasa Apso sidekick, and celebrate the one-year anniversary of the National Science Foundation-funded MICRO lab that focuses on scientific imaging of all sorts of interesting objects.
And speaking of such milestones, we’re also fast coming up on the first anniversary of the Fulbright REVIEW!
Our college recently won a Gold-level Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) 2019 Circle of Excellence award for this digital publication and newsletter – one of the top such honors a university can receive for work in communications.
We’re excited for the year ahead, to keep providing you with more new stories at fulbrightreview.uark.edu continuously, and to keep showcasing the most interesting features in our monthly email round ups so you never miss the inside scoop.
We hope you’ll stay tuned and continue to enjoy the blog. And, if you have a great story idea or know someone you’d like for us to feature, please email us at fulbcomm@uark.edu or submit your own post.
Sincerely,
Todd Shields, Dean of the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences
