As a classic SNL sketch song once stated, “it’s summertime in Fayetteville, hot, hot, summertime,” but we’re staying as cool as we can because there’s still so much happening here at the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences that we can’t wait to share!

We hope you join us in exploring the July 2023 edition of the Fulbright REVIEW, where we shine a spotlight on some of the outstanding staff, instructors, and researchers who tirelessly continue to give their all, as well as some of our top student and alumni achievers, too.

To kick things off, check out our new fully online bachelor’s degree in Spanish launching this fall, and meet the 20 outstanding rising academics who are now Connor Faculty Fellows.

Then, meet a student who spent a year studying abroad in Japan, and three students recognized by the renowned Udall Scholarship Foundation for their commitment to environmental sustainability!

You can also learn how our researchers discovered new answers about ancient human remains from southwest Arkansas, and meet another researcher who is leading poetry workshops in Peruvian jails to help women learn expressive writing skills.

Next, meet a doctoral candidate who earned a $180,000 fellowship for researching the impact of climate change on corn and soybean production, and a student who hopes to make a difference in his future medical career!

Then, please help us commemorate an extraordinary professor emeritus who transformed international education at the U of A, and honor a group of alumni who raised $50,000 to create a scholarship in another beloved educator’s name.

Afterward, see how High-Impact Practices (HIP) help our students succeed, learn about a coaching program that has benefitted 1,000 students and counting, and explore the Cordia Harrington Center for Excellence.

We also recently announced this year’s One Book, One Community read, named six phenomenal incoming freshmen as Bodenhamer Fellows, and hosted the M-SEA Math, Science, and Engineering Academy pre-college outreach program.

Please also join us in congratulating an award-winning student poet, an alumna who won a playwrighting prize, and another alumna who recently became dean at a college of education!

You can also learn how our Scholars at Risk program promotes academic freedom, and see the amazing creative video projects our faculty produced thanks to teaching and faculty support grants.

Afterward, check out this faculty member’s new book on presidential debates, another professor’s new book on adaptations before cinema, and this creative writer’s debut novella.

Finally, if you’d like to learn more about the extraordinary people, initiatives, projects and activities that make up Fulbright College, please visit our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages. Our handle is @uarkfulbright on all three.

And, as always, we’ll keep providing you with more new stories at fulbrightreview.uark.edu. We hope you’ll stay tuned.

In the meantime, please keep in touch, take care and be well!

Sincerely,

Kathryn Sloan
Interim Dean, Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences
