Welcome to the February 2019 Round Up of the Fulbright REVIEW Blog
It’s February, and 2019 is in full swing here at the U of A’s J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences!
This month our Fulbright Family has been keeping busy with amazing events, exciting initiatives and more – check it all out in the Fulbright REVIEW!
February is also Black History Month, and we are so proud that professors emeriti Margaret Clark and Gordon Morgan – the first two African American professors at the U of A – recently had residence halls named in their honor.
Speaking of which, four new Fulbright College Living Learning Communities are coming to the newest residence halls soon, with an emphasis on the arts and innovation.
The arts are also serving as a focal point for theatre, humanities and indigenous studies to share an influential Cherokee family’s Fayetteville legacy in collaboration with Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art and TheatreSquared!
And, as we head into March, our music department is spearheading the SHE Festival to highlight the role women play in the field of music.
Our alumni are also up to great things, like mentoring students who dream of working in the U.S. capital. And one of our faculty members is helping to describe new dinosaur fauna from Arkansas, while another was just named one of the nation’s top journalism educators!
Our focus on service to others remains strong – as evidenced by this anthropology, Latin American studies and biology major who hopes to work for an international nonprofit, this professor helping refugees and armed forces veterans through design, and this professor working to improve the lives of others through social work. Be sure to check their stories out!
And as always, remember that more new stories are posted at fulbrightreview.uark.edu continuously, and our monthly email round ups will keep showcasing the most interesting features so you never miss the inside scoop.
We hope you’ll stay tuned, and continue to enjoy the blog. And, if you have a great story idea or know someone you’d like for us to feature, please email us at fulbcomm@uark.edu or submit your own post.
Sincerely,
Todd Shields, Dean of the J. William Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences
