Welcome to the August 2021 Round Up of the Fulbright REVIEW Blog
Welcome to our annual “Back to School” edition of the Fulbright REVIEW!
Whether you’re a new or returning student, parent, faculty or staff member, alumnus or another part of our Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences family, we are so excited you’re here and that we get to share all of the college’s amazing news and happenings with you.
We’re also excited to be heading back to our beautiful campus and to welcome the largest incoming Freshman class we’ve ever had!
So, be sure to check out our top tips for student success, see how we’re helping new students acclimate, and learn about our 150th anniversary celebration and some of the U of A’s most beloved traditions!
In other big news, we have a phenomenal new interim chancellor for you to meet, and we’ve been working hard to stay safe and Razorback strong despite the pandemic.
In fact, all vaccinated U of A students – regardless of vaccination date – now have multiple opportunities to win several prizes during the fall semester as part of the U of A’s efforts to help mitigate the spread of COVID.
Speaking of students – we’d love for you to meet this rising senior who is studying communications while on the premed track to be able to better serve her future patients, and one of our “student success superstars” who is directing our data science program and helping students excel in statistics!
You can also get to know this young alumna who garnered national recognition for her research on news algorithms, political speech and social media, and meet this cell and molecular biology grad who recently accepted a tenure-track, faculty position at the University of Arkansas at Monticello.
In more awesome news, we recently received a $600,000 grant to help us train more licensed clinical social workers in Arkansas, and one of our biological sciences’ researchers received a prestigious NSF CAREER award to support his work on how the nervous system emerged and diversified.
This $1.15 million award will also help 175 students participate in this research area, recruit minorities into STEM fields, and strengthen our neuroscience education and research capabilities!
In other research news, one of our English faculty members examined the lax oversight of advertising on Facebook during the 2016 political campaign, and one of our geoscientists shared her recent findings on the social habits of fearsome tyrannosaurs.
After checking those stories out, if you’d like to learn more about all the extraordinary people, initiatives, projects and activities that make up Fulbright College, please visit our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages. Our handle is @uarkfulbright on all three.
And, as always, we’ll keep providing you with more new stories at fulbrightreview.uark.edu. We hope you’ll stay tuned.
In the meantime, please keep in touch, take care and be well!
Sincerely,
Todd Shields
