Welcome to the August 2020 Round Up of the Fulbright REVIEW Blog
Welcome to our annual “Back to School” edition of the Fulbright REVIEW!
While 2020 has been a rollercoaster of a year so far, we’re so excited to head back to campus, to welcome the newest members of our Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences family, and to share all of the college’s amazing news and happenings with you.
First, get the inside scoop on our online open house and top tips for student success and check out this awesome new book written by our experts on navigating the first year of college! These stories are part of our new series on student success, so be sure to stay tuned for more in September, too.
You can also catch up on the U of A’s fall plans, with these leaders across campus answering questions on COVID-19 and our plans to stay agile, safe and Razorback strong!
We also recently debuted Fulbright College’s new mission, values and land acknowledgement statement, and announced the members of a committee that will explore former U.S. Sen. J. William Fulbright’s controversial and complex legacy, and make a recommendation for what his campus presence should be.
In other big news, one of our research teams created a new nano drug that helps target breast cancer cells directly while avoiding the adverse side effects of chemotherapy, and we’ve developed and debuted a first-of-its kind undergraduate degree in data science!
Additionally, we’re launching our new student-run record label, Hill Records, this fall to give students hands-on music industry experience, and premiering the new documentary film Indians, Outlaws, Marshals and the Hangin’ Judge created by and featuring numerous U of A faculty members.
A big congratulations also goes out to these outstanding educators who received the college’s prestigious 2020 King, Nolan and OMNI endowed faculty awards, and this dedicated and passionate researcher who shifted her annual Biomedical Research Camp to a virtual setting while also taking the topic of COVID-19 head-on!
We also have a beautiful story to share about a group of friends, colleagues and students who created a grassroots effort to honor and remember a beloved educator who passed away too soon but left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
If you’d like to learn more about all the fantastic people, initiatives, projects and activities that make up Fulbright College, please visit our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages. Our handle is @uarkfulbright on all three.
And, as always, we’ll keep providing you with more new stories at fulbrightreview.uark.edu. We hope you’ll stay tuned, and if you have a great story idea, please email us at fulbcomm@uark.edu.
Please keep in touch, take care and be well!
