Welcome to the April 2024 Round Up of the Fulbright REVIEW Blog
April is always one of the busiest months at our Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences, and also one of the most fun because we get to spend our days in excellent classes, enjoying campus activities, and attending so many amazing events as we near the annual academic finish line known as commencement.
And once we reach that milestone in just a few short weeks, we’ll have a whole new set of students become alumni. What a thrilling time!
Speaking of time, we hope you’ll spend a little of yours with us exploring the April 2024 edition of the Fulbright REVIEW, where you can meet some of these awesome soon-to-be alumni.
This edition is also packed full of inspiring stories featuring our extraordinary students, faculty, staff, and friends, too. So read on and enjoy!
To kick things off, see how we celebrated a once-in-a-lifetime celestial event, and check out this related story about an out-of-this-world student.
You can also help us congratulate this Harry S. Truman Scholarship finalist and meet a group of graduate students whose passion for their work is off the charts.
Then, celebrate this historian who won one of the most renowned prizes in the field, this award-winning documentarian, and this humanities director who not only won a $50,000 book grant but also a national book award!
Next, be sure to save the date for this year’s Hartman Hotz Lecture in Law and Liberal Arts, check out this month’s campus photo gallery, and get the scoop on the next One Book One Community read.
We’re also excited to announce our student-run record label’s contest to find a research institute’s signature sound, this year’s Arkansas Alumni Association Johnson Fellow, and that the U of A has hit a record high in research expenditures.
You can also meet our 10 student semi-finalists for the Fulbright U.S. Student Scholarship Program, a political science freshman featured in an upcoming Apple documentary, and an amazing long-time administrator who was promoted.
Afterward, listen to this podcast on how people choose mates, see how we’re supporting students preparing for law school, and learn about our work on waxy rice and food textures.
Then, get to know a student who won a $40,000 NSF grant, and one selected for a prestigious summer research program, as well as this educator who won accolades for her student-centered work.
And, see a ton more student success in action – through these honors humanities students scoring big at a conference, these nine vocal students earning top placements at competition, and our talented student-run advertising agency winning eight convention awards.
Next, check out this multisensory trip our students took to blend art, science, and nature, and learn how one of our faculty members is helping prevent opioid overdose.
Finally, help us congratulate a long-time administrator on her retirement, as well as to commemorate the life of a beloved colleague and friend.
