Can you believe it? Spring commencement is just around the corner!

But before the academic year comes to its close, there are still so many amazing accomplishments, initiatives and stories to share – right here in the April Fulbright REVIEW.

In this edition, you can meet some of the many outstanding, resilient, determined and passionate members of our Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences family, including awesome alumni, students, faculty, staff and friends.

First, learn how our college is participating in the reinstated Arkansas Commission on the Status of Women and see how the U of A is building and strengthening the overall feeling of belonging on campus.

Next, get the behind-the-scenes scoop on an alumnus who recently visited campus to say Good Morning America and show off his home state and Razorback pride!

Then, meet another alumna who is an astrophysicist at NASA and was recently named our 2022 Arkansas Alumni Association Johnson Fellow, and meet an undergraduate English major who won the Felix Christopher McKean Memorial Award and will have her poem “The Voyeur” published this spring.

You can also get to know a journalism graduate student who won a prestigious marketing communications scholarship, and meet a pair of student scientists who just won multiple awards from the Society for In Vitro Biology for their significant achievements in the field!

On the event front, we’ve got a best-selling author and former Harlem Globetrotter giving a virtual and in-person talk this week, and we’re also hosting the 47th annual mathematical sciences spring lecture series next month.

This year also marks the 50th anniversary of U.S. Congress establishing the Buffalo River as our first national river and we’ll be hosting several events to commemorate it. And, our One Book, One Community committee just announced its U of A-wide read for this yearThe Firekeeper’s Daughter!

Additionally, one of our research teams discovered a gene linked to touch in sea anemones as well as hearing in humans, another researcher made discoveries that shed light on COVID transmissibility and infectivity, and we launched a new memorial award to honor an art education professor lost too soon.

Finally, if you’d like to learn more about the extraordinary people, initiatives, projects and activities that make up Fulbright College, please visit our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages. Our handle is @uarkfulbright on all three.
