Lamba Pi Eta Induction Class of Fall 2024.

Lambda Pi Eta, the honor society for communication majors, held its fall 2024 Induction Ceremony on Dec. 2. Lambda Pi Eta welcomed 43 new members in the fall 2024 cohort. Students must be invited by the LPH adviser, Jake Dionne, to become members of the honor society after meeting the academic requirements.

To be invited to be a member of Lambda Pi Eta, students must have completed 60 semester credit-hours with a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA and completed 12 semester credit-hours in communication studies with a minimum 3.25 GPA. Students in LPH are in the top 35% of their class and are encouraged to develop their studies through undergraduate research.

At the ceremony, LPH officers President Alassandra Holsted and Treasurer Aubrey Kapales gave speeches addressing the new members, family, friends and department faculty in attendance. Their speeches featured their contributions to the U of A Lambda Pi Eta chapter and the opportunities that the honor society has provided them.

Each member of the induction cohort was presented with a graduation cord, a pin and a certificate. The Department of Communication extends congratulations and thanks to these students for their superior academic efforts and accomplishments.

Jake Dionne, assistant professor in the Department of Communication at the U of A, was awarded the 2024 Thomas L. Veenendall Lambda Pi Eta Advisor of the Year Award from the National Communication Association.

The original chapter of Lambda Pi Eta began at the U of A in 1985 under the direction of professor Steve Smith. It was subsequently chartered into a national organization, receiving the official sanction of the National Communication Association. The name, Lambda Pi Eta, represents the first letters in Greek of the three types of proofs that Aristotle presented in his teachings of rhetoric. They include Logos (Lambda), Pathos (Pi) and Ethos (Eta). Currently, Lambda Pi Eta has more than 500 active chapter affiliates worldwide.
