Name: Abigail Hogan

Hometown: Fayetteville, AR

Anticipated Graduation: 2023

Major(s)/Minor(s): Theatrical Design and Technology

Activities/Interests: This year, I have been able to become a better carpenter and designer. I love taking my rescue dog on long walks and runs. Ever since I was little, I’ve loved rock climbing. I’m very into arts and crafts and started my own business making custom resin trays.

Career Aspirations: After graduation, I will begin working in theatrical and film/ TV design and decorating sets. I will be getting a master’s degree in education after several years of work. Right now, I have several job opportunities lined up after graduation to help me start and boost my career. I know that I will win awards for my work because I constantly put in the work and show up.

In her own words:

Dear Dr. & Judge Smith,

I am so humbled to have been chosen for this award. From this funding, I was able to support a study abroad to London. During this experience, I was able to see a new culture as well as see things in the degree and do classwork.

Right now, I am entering my senior year at the University of Arkansas. I am a Theater Design and Technology major with an emphasis on Scenic Design. This school year I’ve been able to become a better designer and carpenter.

After graduation, I will be a Set Dresser/Designer for Film/ TV as well as a Freelance Designer for Theater. Right now, I have several job opportunities lined up after graduation to help me start and boost my career.

I know that I will win awards for my work because of how hard I work and my drive. It is my hope to then be able to give back by becoming a teacher of theater.

As someone who is financially independent, I have to pay for my own school, I also have pay back the loans as well.

Over the past few months, I’ve been doing work-study for the department of theater. This has allowed me to start saving in order to pay back my loans and pay part of my tuition.

I have also been awarded the Pell Grant, loans, work study, and this very generous scholarship.

This award means that I’m going to be able to focus on my academic career without worry of cost. I cannot thank you both enough for choosing me for this award.

I will be making both of you proud and you can be guaranteed that you chose the right recipient.

Thank you,
Abigail Hogan
