In her own words:

Dear Mrs. Burnett,

I am writing you to send my most sincere thanks for supporting the Sue Walk Burnett Journalism Scholarship. When I was made aware by Todd Shields, Dean of the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences, that I was a recipient of your scholarship for the 2021-2022 academic year, I became overwhelmed with gratitude.

It is an honor to represent your legacy here at the University of Arkansas, and I am committed to representing the School of Journalism and Strategic Media with grace and respect.

I graduated from Bryant High School in 2020, and I am currently a sophomore in the Fulbright Honors College double majoring in Journalism on the news and editorial sequence and International and Global Studies on the peace, security and human rights sequence. Along with this, I am minoring in Chinese Business Orientation with a goal of becoming fluent in Mandarin Chinese.

I have had a passion for storytelling since I learned how to write, and I have seen firsthand how journalism can shine light on communities that have been put in the dark for unjust reasons.

After completing my undergraduate degree, I hope to attend law school or seek a master’s degree in Public Service in order to serve and protect others less fortunate as me.

Sincerely,

Grace Carmack
