Major(s)/Minor(s)M.S. in Geography

Activities/InterestsMusic, photography, reading, and gaming are the main activities that I do in my free time. I also like to travel and explore new things, especially different kinds of food.

Career Aspirations: I am an ambitious graduate student with a commitment to pursuing a career in Geographic Information System (GIS) and Remote Sensing with a focus on real world problem solving, hazard assessment, and planning.

 In his own words:

Firstly, I would like to give my deepest gratitude to the scholarship committee for considering me as an eligible candidate for the Harold C. MacDonald Endowed Memorial Award. When I came to know that I had been selected for this prestigious award, I was overwhelmed with joy.

I am pursuing an M.S. in geography in the Department of Geosciences, specializing in remote sensing and GIS. My primary interest is in hazard assessment and planning, and I want to pursue my career in this field.

My bachelor degree in Environment Science has given me enough exposure to all the various possibilities for research that are possible. Furthermore, the course work of the Department of Geosciences is designed not only to give a theoretical notion of the subject but also to apply that knowledge to solve real-world problems.

The interdisciplinary approaches to study the different environmental and socio-cultural aspects with the advanced technologies will not only help me to become a good researcher but also will prepare me for future challenges.

I have always tried my best to better myself in academics and research, and my current academic standing depicts my endeavors. From my own experience, it is always a challenge for an international student to adapt to a new environment and system but achieving this scholarship has uplifted my confidence.

This scholarship will encourage and support me to push myself to take up new challenges.

Again, many thanks to the committee for selecting me for this award. I wish them good health and success.

 Sincerely,

 Abdullah Al Saim
