Activities/InterestsI am passionate about study abroad and international education. I am active in the Brazilian Student Organization and host language tables for the Portuguese program. Additionally, I commit to service learning through my Spanish courses. On the personal side, I love exercising, playing with my dog, and calling the Hogs.

Career Aspirations: I aspire to work in public service as a security analyst or language specialist.

In his own words:

I wish to express my utmost gratitude for your choosing me, Lucas Ros, as a recipient of the Minna Rosenbaum Divers Endowed Scholarship Award. I understand that there are other qualified candidates, and so I thank you for your vote of confidence.

My full name is Lucas Medeiros Ros. I am from São Paulo, Brazil, but have lived in the U.S. for several years now. As a senior at the University of Arkansas, I have found my place in international relations and language learning.

To date I have learned Spanish, Portuguese, French and Russian, two of which I speak fluently. My dedication to the field runs deeply, as I spent a significant portion of my undergraduate years studying abroad in Mexico, Brazil and Spain.

Along with language learning, I research contemporary international relations; my honors thesis analyzes the reengagement of Russia in Latin America and, specifically, Nicaragua. All these interests have combined into a strong desire to follow the path of academia and contribute my knowledge in the public sector, ideally as an analyst or language instructor.

The funding I receive from this scholarship will go towards my rent and grocery money, allowing me to work less hours and devote more time to my studies. Whatever I have left over, I will use during my next study abroad trip to enrich my experience. In any respect, this scholarship will make it easier for me to reach my goals and, for that, I am truly grateful.

We are living in turbulent times and I aspire to be a positive and cooperative force in our world’s perpetual journey towards improvement. I am optimistic for our future and it is with that energy I approach my academic and professional goals.

Once again, thank you for your support.

Gratefully,

Lucas Ros
