In his own words:

Dear Mr. Dixon,

I would like to personally take this time to thank you for the Clifford Cooper Scholarship in Journalism. This scholarship will help me to ease the financial burden of the rising costs of college tuition.

It is the generosity of donors like you that help students like me attend and stay in college. I am most grateful that donors give back to colleges and its student unselfishly. It reaffirms for me the old adage, “each one, teach one.”

I am a current senior at the University of Arkansas majoring in Broadcast Journalism. I am originally from Little Rock, Arkansas but moved to the Dallas-Fort Worth area while in high school and when not at the U of A, I call Texas home.

After graduation, I plan to attend law school or graduate school. I hope to obtain either a master’s degree in Journalism or a law degree and perhaps become a corporate lawyer. I want to fight for the underprivileged whether in the newsroom or courtroom.

This scholarship will help me also by minimizing my account balance so that I can focus on my academics instead of wondering about debt accruing. It will allow me to focus more on the classroom and overall positive college experience.

Again, thank you for the scholarship. I am most appreciative, and I accept this award in the humblest manner possible.

Thank you,

Chandler Nichols
