Paul and Beth Gaylo Scholarship Recipient Angelina Ke
Name: Angelina Ke
Hometown: Little Rock, Arkansas
Graduation: 2025
Major(s)/Minor(s): Majoring in Biology with a minor in Medical Humanities
Activities and Interests: I am participating in a research lab that is going to contribute to my senior thesis, and I am studying the hormonal regulation mechanisms of killifish. I am also involved within my sorority, Chi Omega, offering guidance and advice to younger girls within my major and career path. I get the opportunity to observe the children’s development while building relationships with their families. Additionally, I am involved in the campus organization of Student Ambassadors, which includes a tour of my university campus to groups of students and/or families.
Career Aspirations: I am planning on attending medical school and have the desire to become a physician. I am currently in the process of applying!
In her own words:
Dear Mr. and Mrs. Gaylo,
I hope this letter finds you well. I want to express my heartfelt appreciation for your generous contributions to the Paul and Beth Gaylo Scholarship Fund.
Your support means so much to me, and I am truly honored to be a recipient, having been given the opportunity to expand student research at my college.
I am a senior this year, hoping to complete my Bachelor of Science degree in Biology in the spring of 2025. I am also minoring in Medical Humanities as well, which offers insight into the humanistic perspective of healthcare. I have been a part of the Honors College all my undergraduate years and plan to complete my thesis defense on the current research that I have been undergoing.
I study the hormonal regulation mechanisms of killifish and how they balance water and salt within their body. Outside of the classroom, I am actively involved in Student Ambassadors, Greek life, and my church’s kids’ ministry.
As I am on the pre-medical track, I am currently applying to medical school. I aspire to become a physician in the future, and I am excited about the journey ahead.
Receiving this scholarship is a tremendous help, easing financial burdens and allowing me to focus on my studies and personal growth. As a student, I manage various expenses, including rent, bills, and sorority dues, which can be overwhelming at times.
It is a blessing to not feel as much financial stress on my shoulders, and I have you to thank. Your generosity is inspiring, and I am committed to making the most of this opportunity. Thank you once again for your kindness, encouragement, and support.
I am truly grateful for your belief in me, and I hope to honor your endowment by making a scientific impact in my community.
Warmest Regards,
Angelina Ke
