Giving Thanks: Scholarship Helps Band Member Reach Goal to Become a Diplomat or Translator

This November, members of our Fulbright College Family are sharing expressions of gratitude, letters of thanks and their appreciation for those who have helped make their educational journey possible. 

Meet Matteo Campagnola, who thanks to the Razorback Band Alumni Society Clay Edwards Scholarship, is one step closer to his dream of working in foreign affairs or becoming a translator.

Name: Matteo Campagnola

Hometown: Springdale, Arkansas

Anticipated Graduation: 2024

Major(s)/Minor(s): International and Global Studies / Italian

Activities/Interests: I am very interested in history and geography, and I spend a lot of my free time studying these two topics. Obviously one of my biggest hobbies is band and going to football and basketball games to support our athletic teams and the community is great. I also love to travel!

Career Aspirations: My ultimate career goal is to have a foreign affairs position in the State Department or other government organization. I am also very interested in languages, and being an official translator is also a career I would like to pursue.

Dear Mr. Epley, Jr. and Mrs. Edwards,

Thank you so much for granting me the ability to receive this wonderful scholarship. I am greatly appreciative of the assistance in me being able to complete my education.

I am a junior international and global studies major, and I am also pursuing a minor in Italian language. I am fascinated with geography, history, and current events, and I believe my major ties in perfectly with my interests.

My main goal after graduation is to pursue a career in foreign affairs with the state department or other organization that promotes global cooperation.

This scholarship is incredibly helpful for me academically and financially. I am extremely fortunate in being able to attend the University of Arkansas, and every opportunity I have to lessen the financial burden on me and my family is extremely important.

Scholarships like this allow me to be able to focus on the more important parts of my education and extracurricular activities.

Once again, I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to receive this scholarship. Scholarships like this really do make a difference in students’ lives, mine included.
