In her own words:

Dear Dr. and Mrs. Cole,

Thank you so much for your scholarship donation. I am a rising fourth year student in the M.F.A. program for Creative Writing with a focus on poetry.

My poems have been published or are forthcoming from BlackbirdNew Ohio Review, and The Journal. In addition to poetry, I also translate literature from Spanish and Portuguese and I write creative nonfiction.

I am nonfiction editor for the M.F.A. program’s literary magazine, The Arkansas International, and the online literary journal Up North Lit. After graduation I hope to continue writing with the goal of publishing a book of poetry, and also apply to Ph.D. programs in Creative Writing.

This scholarship will help me to use my fourth year as a launchpad for my career. As hard as I have worked in the past, I hope to concentrate all of my energies this year on editorial job applications and Ph.D. applications, and of course, finishing my thesis and submitting it to presses for publication consideration.

Again, thank you so much for all of your support.

Sincerely,

Romie Hernández Morgan
