Fulbright College Launches Seven New Strategic Goals

by | Jan 14, 2024 | Announcements, Features

The Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences is proud to announce seven new strategic goals launching in 2024, all reflecting and building on the college’s inclusive excellence initiatives, the university’s 150 Forward strategic plan, and in support of the college’s mission of peace through education

“I’m so proud of the intentional and deliberate work that Fulbright College has done to develop these goals,” said Romona West, assistant dean for inclusive excellence and strategic initiatives.

“We started by listening to hundreds of our college’s faculty, staff, and students about what priorities are important to them for Fulbright College,” West added. “From there, members of the college’s Inclusive Excellence Strategic Planning Committee collaborated to operationalize these priorities — by being specific, building success measures, thinking practically, identifying relevance, setting timelines, and thinking equitably in developing each of the seven goals.”

Moving into 2024, each department and school in Fulbright College will incorporate applicable goals into their department strategic plans with help from each area’s departmental inclusive excellence committee.

The goals, which are designed to align with both the college’s inclusive excellence initiatives and the three pillars of U of A Chancellor Charles Robinson’s 150 Forward strategic plan, represent more than a year’s worth of work and input from more than 1,000 faculty, staff, and students throughout the university’s largest college.

“These goals remind us of the importance of our university’s land grant mission to serve all of Arkansas and of Fulbright College’s ongoing commitment to develop thoughtful and critical-thinkers, problem-solvers, and communicators,” said Kathryn Sloan, interim dean of Fulbright College.

“The seven new strategic goals also make me excited about what’s to come — about how we can thoughtfully approach each of the goals to build a college and university that truly is for all of us and continues to champion peace through education while reaching impressive new milestones,” Sloan added.

Each of the college’s seven new strategic goals also supports one of the following inclusive excellence tenants:  Access and Success, Climate and Intergroup Relations, Education and Scholarship, Community Engagement and Outreach, and Infrastructure.

The goals and their correlating tenants include:
