Families and Community Invited to Old Main Open House Sept. 14
Families, friends and community members are invited to drop by the U of A’s iconic Old Main from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 14, for an open house.
As part of Welcoming Week NWA, the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences, which calls Old Main home, is proud to open Old Main to all.
The open house will showcase the building’s rich history and stature and feature a selection of Fulbright College’s community-facing programs, centers and institutes.
Welcoming Week NWA provides individuals and organizations the opportunity to showcase their values through events and initiatives that foster connections and collaboration, as well as belonging for all.
“Old Main is as iconic a building as you’ll find in all of Northwest Arkansas,” said Romona West, assistant dean of inclusive excellence and strategic initiatives in Fulbright College.
“It’s a beacon of higher education for all of Arkansas, and we’re delighted to open the doors of Old Main to all who would like to learn more about this historic building, the incredible people who call it their academic home and the outstanding community initiatives happening in Fulbright College,” she added.
The drop-in open house opportunity will feature student-led tours of Old Main, including a visit to the fourth-floor clock room, as well as refreshments, information about how to connect with Fulbright College and more.
Old Main, the cornerstone of the U of A, built between 1873 and 1875, underwent a meticulous renovation and rededication in 1991. It now stands as the proud home of the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences, including several academic departments and the college’s Dean’s Office.
The building also features the Clock Room, which showcases the original bell and clockwork from the historic building.
