Department of Communication Celebrates Award Winning Faculty
Please join us in celebrating our faculty members Margaret Miller Butcher and Freddie J. Jennings in their recent recognitions.
Butcher has been awarded the 2023 John I. Sisco Excellence in Teaching Award from the Southern States Communication Association. According to the SSCA, the John I. Sisco Excellence in Teaching Award honors SSCA members who have consistently demonstrated excellence in teaching communication throughout their academic careers. Nominees must be employed full-time and teaching courses in communication for a minimum of 10 years. Additionally, each nominee must submit a statement of their “Philosophy and Practice of Teaching.”
Jennings has been awarded the 2023 Judith S. Trent Award for Early Career Excellence in Political Communication from the Central States Communication Association. The Trent Award honors an early-career scholar who has an outstanding record of research in the area of political communication.
According to the CSCA, “early career” is defined as within the first 15 years of receiving a Ph.D. in communication or a related field. The recipient of the Trent Award receives a cash award and a certificate. The recipient is also recognized at the Political Communication Interest Group business meeting.
