Campus, Community Invited to Join ASG and Black Students Association for Annual MLK Vigil Monday

The Associated Student Government and the Black Students Association at the University of Arkansas invite the campus and community to celebrate and remember the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at the annual vigil at noon on Monday, Jan. 18, to be held virtually on asg.uark.edu. The vigil is part of a full slate of virtual events hosted by the Northwest Arkansas Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Council.

The rest of the events during the three-day vigil will be announced Friday.

This year’s vigil will include readings of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s many written works and testimonies of the impact he had on their lives.  There will also be remarks from Anthony DiNicola, inclusion liaison for the University of Arkansas.

As inclusion liaison, Anthony DiNicola represents the Office of the Chancellor. The position advances key diversity and inclusion initiatives from the office and provides enhanced support around specific student-focused projects in collaboration with the Office for Diversity and Inclusion, the Office for Employment Opportunity and Compliance and other stakeholders. DiNicola was previously the senior educator and marketing coordinator at Catharsis Productions. where he led comprehensive trainings in corporate, military and university settings, including trainings on protected class bias, cultivating inclusive workplaces and other diversity and inclusion topics. DiNicola earned a bachelor’s degree from Bowdoin College in Maine.

In addition to the video vigil, ASG encourages all to view the 2021 MLK Calendar of Events for other events and service opportunities. In a service opportunity hosted by the council and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., people can donate to St James Missionary Baptist Church from Jan. 11-22 on any Tuesday between 10 a.m. and 1 p.;m.

The Black Students Association serves to promote the educational, moral, and cultural awareness among black students at the University of Arkansas. Their goal is to provide a forum from which scholarly decisions are made that promote educational success of minorities in higher education.
