A Q&A with University of Arkansas Bands Administration’s Connie M. Vick
Administrative Support Supervisor,
In the Bands Division of the Department of Music
In this conversation, Vick talks about how she’s entering into her 29th year of service at the U of A, being a huge fan of the University Bands program, how much she enjoys the enthusiasm and spirit of the students she works with, how she looks forward to being able to travel with the band again soon, and her ultimate hope that “everyone that has come in contact with me remembers that I love them.”
Q: Tell us a little about your research, academic passions and/or role within the college. What excites you about this?
Moving from a small town in Northeast Arkansas, my desire was to become an employee at the university.
I began my work at the U of A as a part time worker at the band office in August 1992, and shortly afterward became full time.
I believe it was God timing in my life, because I soon fell in love with the band program, the students, faculty and staff. It is my home away from home.
Q: How long have you been at Fulbright College? What have you enjoyed most about your time here?
Going into my 29th year at the university, I have had many changes in my life. However, throughout all the challenges, the people with the band program were there to support me.
I had the privilege of being inducted as an Honorary Member of Tau Beta Sigma and Kappa Kappa Psi, the band’s sorority and fraternity.
The enthusiasm and spirit of the students help make my job so enjoyable. Watching members making lifelong friends, finding their soul mates, and simply enjoying life. This one of the many reasons I love being a part of the University Bands.
Q: What do you most hope your students or colleagues remember from their interactions with you?
I hope that everyone that has come in contact with me remembers that I love them.
When they look back on their Razorback Marching Band days, I hope that they remember my office was always open and maybe I made a difference in their life for the better.
I always look forward to when the RMB alumni come back for homecoming.
Q: What do you like to do during your time outside of the university?
I have had the privilege of some great travels with the Razorback Marching Band, during post season bowl games. We would load up the seven charter buses and head out.
The most surprised I was on these trips was how many times you could watch the same Disney Movie.
The most recent surprise was to find out that young adults today do not like pimento cheese sandwiches!
Q: What’s up next on the horizon for you?
I look forward to more bowl trips with the RMB, hopefully, in an indoor stadium, with the temperature set at 75 degrees!
I also look forward to the days when the RMB Family can be together again as a full group to cheer on our hogs!
GO HOGS, BEAT TEXAS!
