A Q&A with the Pryor Center’s Susan Kendrick-Perry

by | May 13, 2019 | Dean's Corner, Faces of Fulbright, Q & A

Susan Kendrick-Perry
Operations Manager and Transcription Supervisor for
The David and Barbara Pryor Center for Arkansas Oral and Visual History

In this conversation, Kendrick-Perry talks about her love of working with students, her passion for discovering the common threads that connect people to one another, the awesome ongoing partnership between the Pryor Center and Fulbright College, looking forward to spending the summer outdoors, and her four purrrfect pets.

Q: Tell us a little about your research, academic passions and/or role within the college. What excites you about this?

I am the operations manager and transcription supervisor at the Pryor Center. My job includes supervising our amazing student employees, managing our website, working on the KATV digitization project, and assisting the executive director with the management and promotion of events and activities at the Pryor Center, including the Pryor Center Presents lecture series.

I have worked at the Pryor Center for almost ten years. One of the reasons I was drawn to this job was my interest in the preservation of the stories and memories of Arkansans.

I love discovering the common threads that connect us to one another!

Q: How long have you been at Fulbright College? What have you enjoyed most about your time here?

The Pryor Center became part of Fulbright College in July 2017. One of the best things about being part of the Fulbright family is the access to great resources in the Dean’s Office.

I enjoy meeting and working with staff and faculty within Fulbright College, and I look forward to more partnerships in the future.

Q: What do you most hope your students remember from their classes and/or interactions with you?

I am a former schoolteacher, and I love working with students in any capacity.

I hope students who participate in our workshops feel that it was time well spent. I hope the students who work at the Pryor Center remember me as someone who supported them in all their endeavors and appreciated their contributions to the Pryor Center.

Q: What do you like to do during your time outside of the university?

I enjoy spending time with nieces and nephews; watching black-and-white movies from the 1930s, ’40s and ’50s; and annual getaways with my best girlfriends.

My husband and I enjoy going to antique stores and flea markets; and we love spending our summer evenings outdoors, watching the fireflies, rabbits and deer, and any other creatures seeking refuge in our backyard.

Q: What’s up next on the horizon for you?

My husband and I used to camp quite a bit; however, as the years went by, cabins took the place of the tent. We have decided to pull our camping gear out of mothballs this year!

Q: Is there anything else you’d like to add or let readers know?

We have four purrfect pets in our family: Lulu, Nutmeg, Leon and Emma!
