Robert Mueller, professor of music, was awarded an Honorable Mention in the American Prize Ernst Bacon Memorial Award for the Performance of American Music, along with the University Symphony Orchestra. His composition Satori (Awakening) is a concerto for violin and orchestra performed by violin soloist Tara Mueller and the U of A University Symphony Orchestra.

Focused exclusively on works by American composers from any period and in any style, the contest not only judges performances, but in the case of new or unfamiliar works, the music itself. In this case, the honor is shared the University Symphony Orchestra, violinist Tara Mueller and composer/conductor Robert Mueller.

The American Prize National Nonprofit Competitions in the Performing Arts is the nation’s most comprehensive series of contests in the classical arts. The American Prize is nonprofit, unique in scope and structure, and is designed to evaluate, recognize and reward the best performers, ensembles, composers, directors and administrators in the United States, based on submitted recordings. Various prizes are presented annually in many areas of the performing arts.
