Giving Thanks: Scholarship Helps Mathematics and STEM Student Fulfill Dream of Becoming a Teacher
This November, members of our Fulbright College Family are sharing expressions of gratitude, letters of thanks and their appreciation for those who have helped make their educational journey possible.
Meet Brooks Mulloy, who thanks to the Mason Family Endowed Scholarship, is one step closer to his dream of becoming a math teacher focused on teaching algebra and calculus at the high school level.
Mason Family Endowed Scholarship Recipient Brooks Mulloy
Name: Brooks Mulloy
Hometown: Van Buren, Arkansas
Graduation: 2025
Major(s)/Minor(s): Majoring in Mathematics, with a minor in STEM Education
Activities and Interests: I like to play pickleball and board games with my friends and family. I also like to watch TV shows and movies with my family on weekends. I love tutoring and helping students with math, whether that is K-12 or college-level. Along with playing sports, I like to watch and support the Razorbacks and the Dallas Cowboys.
Career Aspirations: I am hoping to become a high school math teacher once I graduate in May 2025. For my last semester, I get the opportunity to do a teaching internship through the STEM Education teacher licensure program. With that, I hope to gain more in-class experience to use when I get a job teaching either algebra or calculus. The reason I wanted to become a math teacher was because two of my high school math teachers made their classes fun and a great place to learn.
In his own words:
Dear Mr. and Mrs. Mason,
I hope this letter finds you well. I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude for your generous scholarship contributions.
Your support not only helps students like me pursue our educational goals but also inspires us to give back to our communities in the future. Thank you for believing in the potential of students and for making a significant difference in our lives.
I am currently in my third year of college but will be graduating this upcoming spring, so I am technically a senior. I am majoring in Mathematics with a minor in STEM Education. I have had the honor of being recognized on the Dean’s List for my GPA in past semesters.
I love being around friends and family, especially if we are playing pickleball, watching movies, or playing board games together. After graduation, I plan to pursue a job as a high school math teacher where I hope to positively impact my students just as my math teachers did for me.
This scholarship will greatly assist me academically and financially, allowing me to focus more on my studies without the added stress of financial burdens. It will also make it easier for me in my internship next semester, since it is unpaid, but I will be able to focus more on gaining experience in the classroom, which is crucial for my professional development.
Your generosity empowers me to strive for excellence and reach my goals. Once again, thank you for your incredible support.
I am truly grateful for your generosity and commitment to helping students succeed. I look forward to making the most of this opportunity and hope to honor your contribution through my future endeavors.
Sincerely,
Brooks Mulloy
