Assistant Professor Jake Dionne Wins National Faculty Advisor Award

Jake Dionne, assistant professor in the Department of Communication at the U of A, has been awarded the 2024 Thomas L. Veenendall Lambda Pi Eta Advisor of the Year Award from the National Communication Association.
Dionne will receive his award on Nov. 22 at the 110th annual meeting of the National Communication Association in New Orleans.
Lambda Pi Eta (LPH) is the National Communication Association’s official honor society at four-year colleges and universities. LPH was started by Dr. Stephen A. Smith at the U of A in 1985. It now has more than 500 active chapters nationwide. LPH represents what Aristotle described in Rhetoric as the three ingredients of persuasion: logos, meaning logic; pathos, relating to emotion; and ethos, defined as character, credibility and ethics.
The Advisor of the Year Award honors an advisor who has shown exceptional commitment to supporting and guiding student members of their chapter, dedicating significant time, energy and service to their development. This award recognizes advisors who best embody the core goals of LPH, which include fostering a culture of academic excellence by acknowledging and rewarding outstanding scholastic achievement in communication, inspiring a strong interest in the field and encouraging professional growth among communication majors. Additionally, the award celebrates those who create opportunities for meaningful dialogue and exchange of ideas within communication, build and strengthen relationships between faculty and students, and provide resources and guidance for exploring graduate education in the discipline.
Dionne had this to say about receiving the award: “I am deeply honored to receive the Thomas L. Veenendall Advisor of the Year Award from the National Communication Association. Supporting the academic and professional growth of our LPH chapter members has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my role. The Department of Communication at the University of Arkansas is a student-centered community, and it’s inspiring to witness our students’ dedication to their studies, professional development and commitment to building a vibrant, supportive environment. This recognition reflects not only my work but also the enthusiasm and excellence of our students, and I look forward to supporting their journeys for years to come.”
Dionne previously won the Jennifer Bender Lambda Pi Eta Rookie Advisor of the Year Award from the National Communication Association.
