Welcome to the May 2024 Round Up of the Fulbright REVIEW Blog
We’ve reached one of my most favorite times of the year, when we get to celebrate all our amazing new Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences graduates and their fantastic accomplishments!
While the old saying goes that “April showers bring May flowers,” in academia it’s more like “the mad crush of April brings the successful grad rush of May.” So, cheers to the Class of 2024, and to all our outstanding faculty, and staff who helped them persevere – we did it!
We also hope you’ll enjoy exploring this May 2024 edition of the Fulbright REVIEW, where we showcase some of these phenomenal new graduates, and so much more.
To kick things off, get the scoop on our record-breaking Class of 2024, and learn how this year’s graduates can make sure their next steps are noted.
Then, check out what one of our professors hopes students will gain from their college experience and take a look back at this year’s top scenes from across our vibrant campus.
You can also meet some of our newest alumni – including a first-generation transfer student who excelled, an online student whose triumph over addiction inspired her to help others, and three talented graduates who were part of our college communications team!
Next, check out our Asian Pacific American Heritage Month celebrations, this noted faculty member’s new film, and help cheer for the Inspirational Chorale as they take center stage in New York.
Then, visit our new GeoLab outdoor installation and learn about our new one-of-a-kind jazz artist-in-residency program.
We also reached two big faculty firsts! One of our political scientists was named the U of A’s first-ever Andrew Carnegie Fellow, and one of our anthropologists was named the U of A’s first-ever National Academy of Sciences member.
In exciting student news, three of our amazing students won the nation’s top award for STEM scholars, and this Ph.D. candidate was selected for a prestigious research fellowship.
Additionally, this double major founded the first Sexual Violence Prevention Association student chapter, these musicians won international trumpet scholarships, and these students won big in our poster competition.
Likewise, our music education students brought creative lessons to local children, and one of our mathematicians was featured in a student’s award-winning essay.
Our alumni also collected several new accolades, like this historian who won a lifetime service award, and this alumna who became the first Vietnamese American ever elected to serve this major metro!
You can also check out our Faculty Appreciation Week celebration, which culminated in the Provost’s Faculty Recognition Reception, and help us congratulate the latest professors to complete Effective College Teaching certification.
Then, cheer for the winners of our Technology Teaching Excellence Award, the recipient of this competitive National Endowment for the Humanities Summer Stipend, and this winner of an open-educational-resource grant.
And if that wasn’t enough excellence, our innovative Razorback Greenway design won a prize, and our researchers were recognized for exploring social media and televised presidential primary debates.
Finally, help us congratulate a renowned Southern historian who was recognized for her student-first focus and latest publication, and help us commemorate the incredible life of an Arkansas legend.
