Welcome to the March 2024 Round Up of the Fulbright REVIEW Blog

It’s Spring Break here at our Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences, which means transitions abound – including to warmer weather, to the tail end of the semester, and this year to an exciting upcoming leadership transition, too.

Because we’ve named our next permanent dean, Brian E. Raines, who will be joining us in July!

I cannot express enough what an honor it has been to serve as your interim dean, and with Dr. Raines and our outstanding Associate Deans and other college leaders continuing to guide the way forward, I know the college is in excellent hands.

March is also Women’s History Month, so read on to meet some of Fulbright College’s extraordinary women in this edition of the Fulbright REVIEW and to learn more about all the wonderful things happening here this month and beyond!

To kick things off, get a recap of our sixth annual SHE: Festival of Women in Music, see how we’re gearing up for the upcoming April 8 total solar eclipse, and get ready for our annual J-Days celebration.

Then, meet four amazing new chairs and program directors, learn how high our online bachelor’s degrees climbed in the national rankings, and see how our fall-to-spring retention rates reached an all-time high!

You can also view a new Pryor Center oral history project and read the accompanying book that charts Arkansas’ historic partisan shift, and discover how internships help give our students a career jump start.

Next, be sure to get your tickets for our upcoming NWA Ballet Theatre and UA Schola Cantorum collaboration, check out this internationally renowned Ghanaian artist’s work here in Fayetteville, and take a look at the latest scenes from around our gorgeous campus.

We hope you’ll also help us congratulate this double-major shortlisted for a prestigious national scholarship, and these master’s students who won research awards, as well as an additional national Young Scholar Award.

You can also help cheer for this psychological scientist who won an esteemed NSF CAREER award, this communications faculty member who won an early career research award, and these scholars who explored statewide language education with Arkansas’ new Secretary of Education.

We’re also excited to share that our student-run record label, Hill Records, is now offering music marketing and promotion services, and that our interdisciplinary Strategic Philanthropy Course celebrated the end of a successful semester by allocating a total of $39,000 to several local non-profits!

Afterward, check out what our researchers discovered about the creative potential of AI, how a decline in pronghorn populations could lead to loss of critical natural resources, and what it takes to be a musical artist-in-residence.

Finally, help celebrate the newest recipient of the U of A’s Imhoff teaching award, as well as two of our vocal instructors who were appointed officers in a national singing association.
