Faculty Recognized by Provost and Chancellor at Reception
Provost Terry Martin and Chancellor Charles Robinson recently recognized U of A faculty at a special reception held in their honor on April 12.
“I’d like to congratulate all faculty who received awards and were recognized at the Provost’s Faculty Recognition Reception,” Martin said. “These awards are well-deserved and showcase our faculty’s successes in scholarship, mentorship and teaching. I’m honored to commend these faculty members for achieving excellence and thank them for the contributions they make daily to the campus community.”
Awards include the SEC Faculty Achievement Award, five Outstanding Mentor Awards and 10 Faculty Applause Awards.
SEC Faculty Achievement Award
The SEC Faculty Achievement Award is given to faculty with outstanding records in research and scholarship at each of the Southeastern Conference’s member universities. This year, Min Zou, Distinguished Professor of mechanical engineering, received the SEC Faculty Achievement Award for the U of A. Read more on Zou and this award.
Outstanding Mentor Award
The Outstanding Mentor Award is sponsored by the Provost’s Office and given to faculty who were nominated by their peers and colleagues for serving as an outstanding mentor to other U of A faculty. The following faculty received the 2023 Outstanding Mentor Award:

Faculty Applause Award
The Faculty Applause Award is co-sponsored by the Associated Student Government and the Office for Faculty Affairs. This award gives students the opportunity to recognize a professor who has made a lasting impact on them during their time at the U of A.

During the reception, faculty were also recognized for completing and participating in mentoring programs and workshops offered by the Office for Faculty Affairs, in collaboration with the U of A Advance ENGAGE team.
Nineteen faculty members were recognized for completing the Mentoring Graduate Students and Postdocs Workshop during the 2022-23 academic year. Faculty who completed this workshop include:

Fifteen faculty members received a badge for completing the 2022 Bridge Program workshops. This program introduces new faculty to campus resources and policies. The next Provost’s Faculty Recognition Reception will be held in April 2024 to coincide with Faculty Appreciation Week, which occurs the second week of April every year. The Provost’s Faculty Recognition Reception is sponsored by the Provost Office, the Office for Faculty Affairs, the Office of the Executive Vice-Chancellor for Finance and Administration, and the U of A Advance ENGAGE grant.
