Welcome to the April 2023 Round Up of the Fulbright REVIEW Blog
April at the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences means busy days filled with classes, campus activities and so many events as we push toward the academic finish line.
The result is that in just a few short weeks, we’ll have a whole new crop of students reach their commencement milestone, graduate, and become alumni. It’s such an exhilarating time!
As a campus we’re also reaching another tremendous milestone together this month – the investiture of the seventh ever chancellor in the 150-year history of the University of Arkansas!
An investiture ceremony is one of the oldest traditions in academia, and also a rallying point, new start, and momentous time for a university. Our celebration takes place April 20, so save the date and join us in person or virtually!
Afterward, we hope you’ll explore all the additional wonderful things happening at the college this month and beyond in this edition of the Fulbright REVIEW.
To kick things off, we’re excited to announce that three juniors are finalists for the prestigious 2023 Harry S. Truman Scholarship!
We’d also love for you to meet this double major U.S. Department of State Critical Language Scholarship awardee, and a mathematician who helped solve a tricky problem that vexed the field for more than 50 years.
Additionally, learn how we helped start a new visual and performing arts internship program, get to know some extraordinary women from the U of A’s past and present, and access resources to help international students succeed.
Then, meet an alumna working to better connect Northwest Arkansas organizations with our campus, and a student leader striving to make a difference through kindness, respect and vision.
We’re also working to help Arkansans impacted by recent tornadoes, launching a new international alumni society chapter, seeking input to help shape the future of our University of Arkansas Museum, and leading the way in the U.S. semiconductor economy!
On the event front, Theatre’s 2022-2023 season culminates this month, and we recently celebrated Faculty Appreciation Week.
Speaking of faculty, meet our ePortfolios exploration team, an award-winning entomologist and integrative animal behaviorist, and a conductor who recently took the stage at Carnegie Hall.
You can also meet a researcher who received one of the highest distinctions for medical and biological engineers, a vocal instructor who just returned from a concert series, and doctoral graduate participating in an acclaimed postdoctoral research exploration!
We also recently had a new DEI Coordinator join our Dean’s Office team, inducted 11 students into the national German academic honor society, and are gearing up for an art workshop for high school students.
Finally, if you’d like to learn more about the extraordinary people, initiatives, projects and activities that make up Fulbright College, please visit our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages. Our handle is @uarkfulbright on all three.
And, as always, we’ll keep providing you with more new stories at fulbrightreview.uark.edu. We hope you’ll stay tuned.
In the meantime, please keep in touch, take care and be well!
Sincerely,
