Welcome to the September 2021 Round Up of the Fulbright REVIEW Blog
It’s another beautiful fall here at our Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences – one filled with so much positive news about student success, our awesome alumni, stellar research, and so much more.
We can’t wait to share it all with you, right here in the latest edition of the Fulbright REVIEW!
To kick things off, meet four of our exceptional undergraduate students who have been named 2021 Sturgis Fellows and a theatre graduate student who recently completed a prestigious Television Academy Foundation Internship!
Then, help us congratulate an awesome journalism instructor who was recently named a Forty Under 40 honoree, an alumna who won the 2021 Yale Drama Series Prize, and four post-baccalaureate students who won National Science Foundation research awards.
Speaking of research – check out the new MonArk NSF Quantum Foundry created by a $20 million grant our physicists won to advance quantum science and technology in the U.S. and another $6.1 million grant for our biological and mathematical scientists to establish a research institute focused on virology and virus ecology!
One of our geoscientists also recently contributed to a large National Geographic-sponsored project to develop a tropical rainforest vulnerability index, and one of our anthropologists is leading a team of researchers studying the effects of climate change on the Arctic.
We also recently received a grant to help expand our career services efforts, and another $30 million partial challenge grant will further expand the Windgate Art and Design District to create more community space to bring together art, design and education in Northwest Arkansas!
This fall is also the prime time to join in our celebrations and observances of National Hispanic Heritage Month, which lasts from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15, and of Disability Awareness Month with upcoming webinars all October long.
We also launched a new language class this fall, and our students can now learn Cherokee as part of our Indigenous Studies Program!
We’re also excited to have you meet the newest member of our college’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion team, and would love for you to share a favorite family recipe with us as part of this year’s One Book, One Community experience.
Afterward, if you’d like to learn more about all the extraordinary people, initiatives, projects and activities that make up Fulbright College, please visit our Facebook, Twitter and Instagram pages. Our handle is @uarkfulbright on all three.
And, as always, we’ll keep providing you with more new stories at fulbrightreview.uark.edu. We hope you’ll stay tuned.
In the meantime, please keep in touch, take care and be well!
Sincerely,
