$10K Match Opportunity Fast Tracks Fulbright College’s Inaugural Participation in #GivingTuesday
Here at Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences, our efforts are always focused on doing all that we can to help our students succeed, and that holds true for #GivingTuesday, too.
The first Tuesday after Thanksgiving – known as #GivingTuesday – is a nation-wide day of online giving to support a variety of organizations and causes.
This will be the first time Fulbright College has participated in #GivingTuesday, taking place Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2020 and all gifts made to the college during this event will support students in financial distress tohelp them achieve their educational success.
“During the COVID-19 pandemic, many of our students and their families have lost the jobs and income they rely on to cover their education and living expenses,” said Todd Shields, dean of Fulbright College. “Others are experiencing immediate food and housing insecurities or personal and family health crises.”
Shields said the college is responding to the needs of our students on an individual basis by creating the Fulbright College Dean’s Emergency Student Retention Fund, which is what all the college’s #GivingTuesday gifts will support.
“The fund will provide unrestricted resources to undergraduate and graduate students who are experiencing financial hardship as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, which will help us respond to students’ needs as quickly as possible,” Shields said.
“Making a plan to participate on #GivingTuesday is another tangible way to make a difference, support education and make a significant positive impact,” added Shields, who has pledged a match of up to $10,000 for gifts received on #GivingTuesday.
Shields said he’s encouraging #GivingTuesday donations to help students who have unmet financial challenges preventing them from continuing their education.
“When you contribute to the Fulbright College Dean’s Emergency Student Retention Fund, you provide essential resources to students who have lost the employment, housing or family support that enables their college education to continue,” Shields said.
“Any amount will go a long way to create a better future for our students in need, and to remind them that we’re all in this together and we’re here to help them,” added Shields.
